Minimum Job Requirements:High School Education or G.E.D. Graduate of an accredited, approved Police Academy. Prior law enforcement experience as a full-time certified officer must be within the past five (5) years or be eligible for certification immediately upon hire. Meet the requirements of TCA 38-8-106 and TCA 38-8-107 qualifications of Police Officers. Must be able to stand for long periods of time, walk, climb, and lift. Meet written departmental directives. Required to work nights/weekends/holidays or a shift or location that best meets the needs of the department. Must be able to work in inclement weather or weather extremes. May be confined to motor vehicle for an entire shift. May be exposed to hazardous materials, infectious disease, blood borne pathogens, steam,car battery acid, loud noises smoke and fire. May be required to be knowledgeable and able to correctly use personal protective equipment. Good customer service skills. Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated self-restraint in challenging and/or difficult situations. Ability to work in a multi-cultural setting Demonstrated problem solving skills Must be at least 21 years of age Must be a certified police officer meeting all of the requirements for P.O.S.T. certification in Tennessee. Must not have been convicted of or pleaded guilty to or entered a plea of nolo contendere to any felony charge or to any violation of any federal or state laws or city ordinances relating to force, violence, theft, dishonesty, gambling, liquor or controlled substances. Must have a valid driver's license in the State of Tennessee Pass a thorough background investigation Pass a medical examination including vision screening and drug testing. Pass a Psychological Evaluation. Must attend and successfully complete, annually, a department authorized and POST approved in-service training course consisting of at least forty (40) hours of instruction. Must successfully complete the department field training program within designated time frame.Essential Job Functions:Patrol the campus by foot, bicycle, or motor vehicle. Investigate suspected crimes, report findings, and arrest suspected individuals. Testifies in court of legal proceedings. Investigate accidents involving persons or property, reports probable cause of accidents, and pursues appropriate course of action and ensure that all incidents and arrest activities are properly documented. Ability to proficiently operate law enforcement equipment (including lethal and non-lethal weapons necessary in the performance of required duties). Keep records and prepares reports (offense, arrest, fire system, emergency phones, alarm systems, and mechanical equipment). Provide escorts and/or make bank deposits or special mail deliveries. Ensure traffic control and enforcement. Checks doors and locks and responds to lockouts. Identifies potential security related conditions and take the lead in problem solving through partnerships to develop prevention strategies. Provides safety, crime prevention, and community policing information to contacts over the course of patrol duties. First responder for all emergency calls to include but not be limited to the following: alarms (fire, panic, holdup), hazardous material spills and leaks, traffic crashes, criminal activity in progress, assistance for injured/sick, and crimes in progress. May conduct photographing; conduct photo line ups and additional investigative duties as necessary. Develops rapport with the community. Performs field stops and interviews. May be assigned various other duties. May direct or coordinate temporary employees under certain circumstances.
