Grassroots Political Coordinator

Details: To coordinate political efforts in order to bolster PPOSBC’s leadership in advocacy, public policy, and public education as they relate to reproductive health care. To research, monitor, analyze, and maintain database of local, state and federal elected officials and candidates, as well as state and local laws and policies.  To coordinate PPOSBC’s work with elected officials and on behalf of candidates.  To research and analyze political races and assist Vice President of Public Affairs and Public Affairs Manager in developing an electoral plan. Other essential and non-essential duties may be assigned.ROLE SPECIFIC COMPOTENCIES: 1.     Adaptability/Flexibility: Adapts to change, is open to new ideas, takes on new responsibilities, handles pressure, adjusts plans to meet changing needs. 2.     Creativity/Innovation: Generates new ideas, challenges the status quo, takes risks, supports change, encourages innovation, solves problems creatively. 3.     Initiative: Tackles problems and takes independent action, seeks out new responsibilities, acts on opportunities, generates new ideas, practices self-development. 4.        Sense of Urgency: Prioritizes well, shows energy, reacts to opportunities, instills urgency in others, meets deadlines.Electoral Work 1.    Research, monitor, and maintain current knowledge and database of state and local candidates.2.    Analyze information on candidates, demographic information, political information to determine strategic electoral opportunities that meet the agency’s goals.3.    Provide relevant information to develop strategic electoral plan.4.    Recruit and mobilize volunteers to support pro-choice candidates through phone banks, precinct walks, and other grassroots efforts.5.    Coordinate candidate interviews and questionnaires.  Attend interviews as appropriate.6.    Coordinate efforts to identify, recruit, and train pro-choice candidates in targeted areas.7.    Coordinate Voter Registration and outreach efforts.8.    Represent agency at political events, and participate as needed in electoral activities.9.    Communicate as needed with other Planned Parenthood entities regarding activities, updates and timely issues.Legislative Advocacy 1.    Develop and maintain relationships with local legislative staff members, elected officials, and community advocates, in coordination with Public Affairs Manager.2.    Schedule lobby meetings with elected officials for staff and volunteers.  Attend lobby meetings as appropriate.3.    Plan annual Lobby Day and other similar events.4.    Assist Public Affairs Manager with patient-based advocacy and donation programs.5.    Compile voting records and in-depth profiles of legislators in Orange and San Bernardino counties.6.    Research, monitor, analyze, and maintain current knowledge and database of state and local elected officials.7.    Monitor and research local issues that affect Planned Parenthood for use in lobbying and education efforts, with a particular focus on local school boards. 8.    Identify potential legislative and electoral opportunities. 9.    Gather local statistics and demographics concerning reproductive health for each legislative district.10. Represent agency at public events, and participate as needed in advocacy activities.11. Communicate as needed with other Planned Parenthood entities regarding activities, updates and timely issues.OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Demonstrated knowledge of and interest in the political and legislative process.  Ability to handle various tasks simultaneously, work well in high pressure situations and able to meet deadlines.      3.    Proficient in MS Windows; Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet usage.
